November 7, 2014 – January 15, 2015
Artist: Eric Dyck

Running in conjunction with the exhibition SETH: DOMINION (Nov. 7, 2014 – Jan. 15, 2015), local cartoonist Eric Dyck will be the U of L Art Gallery’s first “Social Media Artist-In-Residence”.

The U of L Art Gallery is pleased to announce that local cartoonist Eric Dyck will be the U of L Art Gallery’s first social media artist-in-residence. His project will run throughout the exhibition SETH: DOMINION from Nov. 7, 2014 – Jan. 15, 2015. Dyck will take over our social media feeds during this time. In addition, he will also be in attendance at the U of L Art Gallery’s main gallery. As a huge fan of Seth and an active participant on social media, Dyck was the obvious choice to start this new program. In addition, the U of L Art Gallery will partner with Dyck for a cartooning workshop (December 6, details below) and an evening comix jam (November 27, details below). Further information on dates and times for his schedule in the gallery and these events will be posted soon.

Social Media Artist-In-Residence Project

The U of L Art Gallery is launching a social media artist-in-residence project in which artists are invited to take over the Gallery’s Twitter and Facebook feeds as well as create projects in relation to the exhibitions.

As part of a slate of new public engagement programs this year, the U of L Art Gallery will be running a social media artist-in-residence project. “In-residence” meant as inviting artists to take over the U of L Art Gallery’s Twitter and Facebook feeds, rather than necessarily being in town. Some of the artists will be in Lethbridge and others will log in from other cities. The project will invite our social media audiences, whether local or not, to respond to questions and discussion with the artists and the gallery staff. The artists will also create other projects that will happen in or near the exhibitions such as performances, workshops, and material to be projected on “Project Wall“, one of our satellite spaces adjacent to the Main Gallery’s entrance.

Local cartoonist Eric Dyck is the first artist for this project. Lisa Hirmer from DodoLab will also take a turn on our social media feeds and will create a virtual conversation that continues discussion generated during the Complex Social Change events that we started last year.

Eric Dyck’s Comix Jam

Artist: Eric Dyck

Like the Dadaist game, “The Exquisite Corpse”, a “Comix Jam” is a collaborative drawing session. Comic strips & pages are created by drawing a panel of the story and then passing it to another person to continue the story in words and pictures. Bring your own materials or use those provided.

Join Social Media Artist-In-Residence, Eric Dyck, for a Comix Jam in the Main Gallery to celebrate the SETH: DOMINION exhibition. We will conduct the jam in the gallery, utilizing Seth’s miniature buildings as backgrounds for our stories and drawings.
