The U of L Alumni Association (ULAA) is honoured to kick-off Homecoming Weekend with the 10th and final John Gill Memorial Golf Tournament. Prior to his sudden passing in 2007, John Gill (BA ’94) dedicated a great deal of time and effort to the ULAA’s annual fundraising golf tournament. Renamed the John Gill Memorial Golf Tournament in 2008, the event continues John’s mission to help students struggling financially by donating tournament proceeds to the ULAA’s John Gill Memorial Bursary.

Like so many of us, many of our most celebrated U of L faculty & friends have a memory that is tied to a great song. Join us for a FREE night of great music and informal conversations with a few of these distinguished guests, and each other. This precursor to the University’s Shine on Festival happening Saturday will ignite your weekend of fun.

Creative problem solving is a transferable skill needed in the emerging job market. Register for one (or all) of AGILITY’s three 30-minute workshops and explore solutions for “wicked” problems like sustainability, climate change and renewable resources; use ideation to narrow your focus and determine a solution to a problem; and hone the skills needed to create change. Use creative problem solving skills and ideation to solve the age old problem: “What’s for dinner?”

Canadian Centre for Behavioural Neuroscience (CCBN)
U3T – University 3T MRI Centre: Tour a world-class diagnostic imaging and research facility that provides public access to scans using three Tesla Magnetic Resonance Imaging (3T MRI), the most powerful MRI machine in Southern Alberta.
Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Facility Tour: A great example of interdisciplinary research at the U of L, the NMR facility is used by several departments in both the Faculty of Arts & Sciences and the Faculty of Health Sciences. The research carried out in this facility has implications ranging from the oil sands, clean energy and plastics production to personalized and diagnostic medicine. Walk through the design of a super-conducting NMR magnet, the NMR probe and explore research being carried out in the facility.
Each tour will take 15 minutes and with a maximum of 15 participants per tour.

Alberta Water & Environment Science Building
An augmented reality sandbox sees technology superimpose a computer generated image, (in this case, a topographic map and simulated rain fall), on a real world object. This provides you a composite view to interact and experiment with in real time. Tours run every 15 minutes. Maximum eight people per tour. Location: tours leave from the Alberta Water and Environment Science Building (AWESB) foyer

Centre for Financial Market Research and Teaching (Markin Hall)
Ever wonder what it would be like to visit the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) or the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX)? Learn about our state-of-the-art Centre for Financial Market Research and Teaching (CFMRT) in this hands-on demonstration and try out financial simulation training software. Trade commodities against other participants in a simulation-based learning scenario focused on the effects of supply and demand.
The CFMRT is the first of its kind in an academic setting in Western Canada. The facility is comprised of 48 workstations, a 30 foot full-colour LED ticker, two market data walls and a fully integrated audio/visual system.

Steeped in decades of tradition, experience a Blackfoot naming ceremony as five outstanding individuals, Chancellor Janice Varzari (BN ’90, MEd ’02), Board of Governors Chair Kurt Schlachter (BSc ’00), Provost and Vice-President Academic Dr. Andy Hakin, longest-serving faculty member Dr. Dennis Connolly (LLD ’17) and Chancellor Emeritus Dr. Van Christou (LLD ’84), are each honoured with a Blackfoot name in a traditional Blackfoot naming ceremony.
