Yesterday I drove up to Calgary to visit the famous Calgary Stampede! We got in around 2pm and took the C-train to avoid the parking madness and try to save a couple bucks. It was my friend’s first time to the Stampede and only my second so it was a fun road trip.
Our first stop was a nice new Greek place that was added for some delicious chicken souvlaki. It was a nice alternative to the deep fried everything you can get there. We walked around and looked at the games and rides you could go on and the different exhibition stalls set up. We got lucky and went on Thrifty Thursday so it was $2.00 off sample size foods. We got a brownie big enough to feed four people for $3.00.
We then got to watch a Fashion show by Sophia International Model Search. It’s really nice to have the option of doing all these different things no matter what your mood. After a caramel apple, a hypnotist and a elephant ear we hoped back onto the C-train to end the day. We would have stayed later but no one caught our interest on the Coke Stage. The night before we missed Marianna’s Trench and earlier that week Fefe Dobson.
The Calgary Stampede is definitely a must visit event and really shows off our Western Heritage!
Next event for this weekend is Thunder in the Valley, the crazy fireworks show in the Crowsnest Pass happening this Saturday. It will be a great way to end off this week of 10 hour days, job resignation, heat, thunder storms and trips. Oh the joys of summer!
