In it, he plans to argue that a coherent VAT cannot simply offer rules for virtuous arguers as some in the field have done. Instead, it must identify a clear <em>purpose <\/em>that guides virtuous argumentation. The purpose for which the virtuous arguer argues is to <em>reconcile <\/em>with their intended audience in a shared justification for belief in how things are and a shared vision of how things ought to be. He calls this purpose \u201cepistemic reconciliation\u201d and intends to demonstrate that it can solve many of the puzzles in the relatively new field of VAT. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nathan Fuehrer is also currently coaching the University of Lethbridge&#8217;s Ethics Bowl Teams. His primary interests are the philosophy of education, and critical thinking education. He is concerned with how best to introduce learners to critical thought in a manner which will bring about reflexive reflection. He believes the expansion of critical thinking centered education can have a positive impact on our lives as individuals, and our ability as a collective to make responsible and just decisions. His current work is focused on the impact of Artificial Intelligence and technology on critical thinking, and serving as a research assistant to Dr. Nicholas Dunn for his class \u201cHow to Be a Student\u201d and work related to this class. She is doing an independent study focused on the use and limits of politeness in argumentation supervised by Dr. Katarina Stevens. She is also volunteer-coaching the high school Ethics Bowl teams this semester for her Public Philosophy class taught by Dr. Ian Olasov.
