By building an atmosphere of creative discovery on campus, students can explore and develop new ideas in a risk\u2013free environment where failure is a way to learn.<\/p>\n<h2>What to do\/see in the Agility Zone:<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Agility booths and hands-on workshops<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Magnetic Resonance Centre on display:<\/strong><br \/>\nThis facility houses three superconducting nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) systems, one electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) system, and an x-ray diffractometer system. Each is used to study a range of sciences, including materials science (plastics, polymers, batteries, etc.), toxicology, neuroscience and health care.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Piikani Environmental Monitoring on display:<\/strong><br \/>\nThis community-based system blends traditional Indigenous knowledge with emerging environmental monitoring technologies. As part of the PEM, Indigenous graduate and undergraduate at uLethbridge are collecting, storing and managing environmental and cultural data under the guidance of Elders.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Souvenir seed packages for visitors<\/strong>[\/vc_column_text][\/toggle][toggle color=&#8221;Default&#8221; title=&#8221;Science Commons Level 7: Outreach, Biological Sciences and New Media Zones&#8221;][vc_column_text]\n<h2>What to do\/see in the Outreach Zone:<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Hands-on activities with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uleth.ca\/destination-exploration\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Destination Exploration<\/a>:<\/strong><br \/>\nWith interactive classroom workshops, exciting summer camps, after school Science Clubs, birthday parties and more, Destination Exploration gives youth positive learning experiences in science, technology, teamwork and leadership.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hands-on activities with <a href=\"https:\/\/letstalkscience.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Let&#8217;s Talk Science<\/a>:<\/strong><br \/>\nAn award-winning, national, charitable organization, Let&#8217;s Talk Science supports learning and skill development using science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.uleth.ca\/artsci\/remote-sensing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Remote Sensing<\/a> (Geography) Virtual Sandbox:<\/strong><br \/>\nThis augmented reality sandbox projects a computer-generated topographic map and simulated rainfall on a real-world object, providing you a composite view to interact and experiment with in real-time.<\/p>\n<h2>What to do\/see in the Biological Sciences Zone:<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Hands-on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uleth.ca\/artsci\/biological-sciences\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">biological sciences<\/a> activities and displays:<\/strong><br \/>\nLearn about biology&#8217;s diversity with activities and displays ranging from ecology to photosynthesis to cardiovascular disease<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uleth.ca\/artsci\/biological-sciences\/research-internship-concentration\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">R<strong>esearch Internship Concentration<\/strong><\/a><strong> display:<\/strong><br \/>\nImagine being the first to discover something about a gene, a cell, an organism or an ecosystem! The Research Internship Concentration lets uLethbridge students make discoveries in biological research as part of their university program.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/scholar.ulethbridge.ca\/natural-products-cancer-cell-golsteyn\/home\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Prairie to Pharmacy Program<\/a> display:<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Prairie Pharmacy program tests prairie plants to find chemicals for use in medicines, health products or scientific tools.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uleth.ca\/artsci\/biological-sciences\/herbarium\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Herbarium<\/a>: plant collecting and database construction demonstration:<\/strong><br \/>\nThe uLethbridge herbarium includes over 21,000 specimens of vascular plants and is important research tool for botanists, students and the general public. Enjoy brief demonstration of plant collection methods and addition to the herbarium, along with a demonstration of how databases are used.<\/p>\n<h2>What to do\/see in the Level 7 New Media Zone:<\/h2>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uleth.ca\/fine-arts\/space\/data-physicalization-lab\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Data Physicalization<\/a> booth:<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Fine Arts Data Physicalization Lab works with research scientists and their data sets in experimenting with mapping data to interactive programs or physical objects.<\/p>\n<p><strong>After Sol Lewitt: Explorations in Drawing and Painting display:<\/strong><br \/>\nView works by Sol LeWitt, the iconic American artist whose work helped to establish both Minimalism and Conceptual Art.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.blackfootdigitallibrary.com\/digital\/collection\/bdl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Blackfoot Digitization<\/strong><\/a><strong> project booth and workshop:<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Blackfoot Digital Library brings home field notes, photographs and recordings spread all over the world, ensuring Blackfoot knowledge is carried through to future generations.[\/vc_column_text][\/toggle][toggle color=&#8221;Default&#8221; title=&#8221;Science Commons Level 8: Neuroscience, New Media, Chemistry and Psychology Zone&#8221;][vc_column_text]\n<h2>What to do\/see in the Neuroscience Zone:<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Bioinformatics and Alzheimers displays and hands-on activities<br \/>\n<\/strong>Drs. Athan Zovoilis, a professor of bioinformatics and Majid Mohajerani, a professor of neuroscience, study how the misfolding of proteins causes symptoms of Alzheimer\u2019s disease.<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Neuroscience research displays<\/strong><br \/>\nLearn about some of our neuroscientists&#8217; research, including dementia, Alzheimer&#8217;s treatment and improving childhood neuropsychological problems with videos, brain models and a microscope.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Transgenerational research displays<\/strong><br \/>\nNeuroscience professors Drs. Gerlinde Metz and Mirela Ambeskovic will show how trans-generational stress may lead to preterm birth, disease and accelerated aging with images, behavioral testing instruments, brain slides and posters.<\/p>\n<h2>What to do\/see in the Level 8 New Media Zone:<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Between the Drops sound installation<\/strong><br \/>\nBetween the Drops uses induction loops (electromagnetic loop) to create silent pockets of sound heard through a special receiver. Participants move from one zone to another, essentially mixing the sounds as their body moves through space.[\/vc_column_text][\/toggle][toggle color=&#8221;Default&#8221; title=&#8221;Level 9 Activities &#8220;][vc_column_text]\n<h2>What to do\/see in the Biochemistry Zone:<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Canadian Centre for Hydodynamics booth<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Virus research booth and lab tours<\/strong><br \/>\nDr. Trushar Patel and his team are shining new light on viruses and how they survive in an effort to slow down or stop their replication.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3D Printing for teaching science display<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>iGEM activities<\/strong><br \/>\niGEM is the world&#8217;s top synthetic biology competition.
