The Board designates Pres, VP, AVP, Dean, Associate Dean as emeritus, if he/she meets the criteria.

Senate gives emeritus designation to Chancellors: Emeritus (male), Emerita (female) and Emerita (plural).

  1. There is a Board policy that emeritus appointments can be made for the Board Chair, President, Vice-Presidents, Associate Vice-President, Dean or Associate Dean. There are other rules surrounding that appointment and they are not automatically granted.
  2. A Board Chair is designated emeritus by the Board.
  3. Under GFC policy faculty who are full professors on retirement automatically become professor emeritus. It is automatic. Faculty who retire who are not full professors may be recommended for emeritus status. The procedure is that the salary, tenure & promotion (STP) committee of the department makes the recommendation to the Dean, and if the Dean agrees, he/she then makes the recommendation to the President and if the President agrees, he/she makes the recommendation to the Board.
  4. Faculty who are full professors on retirement are automatically professor emeritus.
  5. Administrators and volunteers; i.e. board chair, chancellor, etc. have to be named emeritus.
