Submission Guidelines

Chinook: A Scholarly Journal of Romance Studies is an open-source journal committed to publishing original articles and interviews on topics relating to Romance languages and literatures.  At this time, we are able to accept articles written in English, French and Spanish.

We will only accept original work that has never been published elsewhere and to which the submitting author retains the rights.  We will not accept any article that is concurrently under publishing consideration elsewhere.

Chinook: A Scholarly Journal of Romance Studies is committed to a blind peer review process.  We will endeavour to review all manuscripts that conform to the initiative and scope of the journal as rapidly as possible and provide feedback in all circumstances.

Before publication, Chinook: A Scholarly Journal of Romance Studies requires the contributor(s) as the rights holder(s) to sign a Journal Contributor’s Publishing Agreement stating that the author retains copyright in the work but grants Chinook: A Scholarly Journal of Romance Studies the sole and exclusive right to publish the article for the full legal term of copyright.

Formatting

The only acceptable format for manuscript submission is a Word document processed in Times New Roman, 12 point font, double-spaced, with margins of 1 inch all around.  Pages should be numbered consecutively with numerals, aligned at the bottom centre of the page.  Manuscripts should be a minimum of 5000 words and should not normally exceed 7000.  Spelling in English must follow that of the Canadian Oxford Dictionary, spelling in French must conform to the guidelines of the Académie Française.  Endnotes, not footnotes, must be used. Quoted words or sections in running text should be in double quotes with single quotes within. Passages of more than 50 words should be indented.

For reference, formatting and bibliography style, adhere strictly to MLA Handbook, 8th edition.  Any submissions that do not conform to this style will not be considered.  Ensure your article contains no indication of authorship.  This is crucial to ensure the integrity of the blind review process. Prior to submitting your article for consideration, ensure you have secured rights to any artwork, figures or other included graphics.

Upon submission to Chinook: A Scholarly Journal of Romance Studies, please attach your manuscript in the format described above and send it to chinook.journal@uleth.caDo not include it in the body of the email.  Your email message must, however,  include the article’s title, author(s) name(s), affiliation/institution and current position, full postal address, email address and telephone number.  It must also include a 200 word abstract to be published with the article and five key words for classification purposes.

Chinook: A Scholarly Journal of Romance Studies takes matters of copyright infringement and plagiarism very seriously. We will take any measures necessary to ensure material published in the journal is the sole, original and previously unpublished work of the submitting author(s).  Should any infringement of this policy or other breaches of publication best practices come to light, we reserve the right to take any action deemed necessary to protect the journal.
