Managing Bulk Student Accommodations in Crowdmark

With updates to the interface and functionality, Crowdmark has introduced a streamlined way to manage accessibility and student accommodations. Instead of manually editing individual settings for every student with an accommodation requirement, instructors can now apply time multipliers and deadline extensions to students in the course, in bulk.

1. Accessing the Accommodations Dashboard

Accommodations are managed at the Roster level within a specific assessment.

  1. Launch your Crowdmark assessment from Moodle.
  2. In the top navigation menu, click on Students.
  3. You will see your synced Moodle roster. Notice the new Accommodations column.

2. Applying Accommodations in Bulk

This is the most efficient way to handle “Time and a Half” (1.5x) or “Double Time” (2.0x) for a group of students.

  1. Select Students: Use the checkboxes on the left side of the roster to select all students who require the same accommodation.
  2. Open Bulk Actions: Once students are selected, a floating “Bulk Actions” bar will appear at the bottom of the screen. Click Manage Accommodations.
  3. Set the Multiplier: In the pop-up window, you can set:
    • Time Multiplier: (e.g., enter 1.5 for 150% time). Crowdmark will automatically calculate the new individual time limit based on your assessment’s original duration.
    • Fixed Extension: (e.g., add exactly 30 minutes).
  4. Apply: Click Save Changes.

3. Setting Individual “Late Windows”

For students who have accommodations related to submission windows rather than timed duration:

  • In the same Manage Accommodations window, you can toggle “Exempt from Late Penalties.”
  • This ensures that even if a student submits after the global Moodle deadline, Crowdmark will not flag the submission as late or apply any pre-configured point deductions.

4. Verifying Accommodations

Once applied, a yellow clock icon will appear next to the student’s name in the roster.

  • Hover over the icon to see the specific math: e.g., “Original: 60m → Accommodated: 90m.”
  • Student View: When the student begins the assessment, their countdown timer will automatically reflect their specific accommodated time. They do not need to do anything to “activate” it.

Best Practices for U of L Instructors

  • Sync First: Always ensure you have clicked Sync Roster from Moodle before setting accommodations to ensure all students are present.
  • The “ALC” Tag: If you have many students, you can use the Moodle “Groups” feature to group ALC students together. When you sync to Crowdmark, you can filter by that group to make selecting them for bulk accommodations even faster.
  • Timed vs. Assigned: Remember that multipliers only apply to Timed Assessments. For standard “Assigned” homework with no timer, use the Individual Deadline override instead.

Accommodated Exam Overrides

When delivering a Moodle Quiz as an open book exam, you as the instructor will be able to set up overrides for students.
